چکیده

Recently, civil infrastructure and lifeline networks have been stressed by significant natural hazards and human errors leading to malfunction. Earthquakes and tsunamis, hurricanes and floods, blackouts and satellite failures have evidenced the vulnerability of these growing networks threatening the business continuity and economy of several communities. Characterization of the performance and reliability analysis of these networks is the key component to propose effective mitigation actions and study propagation of their effects. In this paper, we propose a method for computing terminal-pair reliability of infrastructure and lifeline networks based on Binary Decision Diagram (BDD). Reliability is defined as the probability that the nodes in the network can communicate to each other, taking into account the possible failures of network links. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated by performing experiment on several case study networks.

Comparison of Binary and Multi-Variate Hybrid Decision Diagram Algorithms for K-Terminal Reliability

The Ordered Binary Decision Diagram (OBDD) has been efficiently used to compute the communication network (CN) reliability (REL). The boundary set method (BS) is used to improve the efficiency of the OBDD approach, while the augmented OBDD diagrams (OBDD-A) that stores CN information in its nodes has been proposed to solve other CN performance metrics in addition to REL. The hybrid OBDD (OBDD-H...

End-to-end Simulation and Analysis Framework for Efficient Seismic Retrofitting of Water Systems

Maintaining the functionality, productivity, and safety of communities necessitates the seismic reliability of lifeline infrastructure networks. However, assessing the reliability of an infrastructure network is a nontrivial task due to the variability of ground motion and the complexity of the response of the network resulting from that ground motion. Even more challenging is the task of ident...

Seismic Reliability Assessment of Lifeline Networks Using Clustering-based Multi-scale Approach

Seismic reliability assessment of lifeline networks gives rise to various technical challenges, which are mostly caused by a large number of network components, complex network topology, and statistical dependence between component failures. For effective risk assessment and probabilistic inference based on post-hazard observations, various non-simulation-based algorithms have been developed, i...

Simulated Annealing Algorithm for Seismic Optimization of Lifeline Networks

Usually lifeline systems, such as water distribution network and gas supply network, cover large areas. For these systems, network topology design based on seismic reliability provides a good way to design new systems and update old ones. In this paper, a topology optimization model for lifeline networks is established. The aim of the model is to find the least-cost network topology while its s...

A Bayesian Networks Approach to Reliability Analysis of a Launch Vehicle Liquid Propellant Engine

This paper presents an extension of Bayesian networks (BN) applied to reliability analysis of an open gas generator cycle Liquid propellant engine (OGLE) of launch vehicles. There are several methods for system reliability analysis such as RBD, FTA, FMEA, Markov Chains, and etc. But for complex systems such as LV, they are not all efficiently applicable due to failure dependencies between compo...
